M, T, F; 9am-5pm, with Wednesday & Thursday 1pm-8pm

Position Information

Our Counsellors are responsible for providing direct social work service to clients in accordance with Centre policy and programs. They have sound knowledge of social work practices, experience in solution-focused therapy, with excellent interpersonal skills. They are driven to provide superior service and take action to provide positive solutions. This position will report directly to the Clinical Supervisor and Programs Manager located in our Sarnia office.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provides clinical services, including assessment and referral, short-term and long-term counselling with individuals, couples, families and groups.
  • Advocates on behalf of clients, as appropriate.
  • Maintains records and statistics in accordance with agency procedures.
  • Engages with Family, Couple, and Individual Counselling Team by participating in FCC programs; preventive education, community awareness, and family-life education.
  • Collaboratively works with all FCC staff in ongoing evaluations of community needs, current program status, and delivery of programs
  • Serves on appropriate committees as assigned within the community and FCC.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge about the range of services provided by FCC and by other community service providers.
  • Actively engages in professional development opportunities as required to ensure proficiency in best practice approaches
  • To complete any additional duties, not outlined above, as deemed necessary by the Clinical Manager and Programs Manager.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Qualifications
  • 3 to 5 years of experience providing solution-focused, strength-based counselling to families, couples and individuals.
  • Experience with group work will be considered an asset.
  • Experience providing Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy
  • Previous experience working with children, LGBTQIA2, and indigenous individuals
  • Strong interpersonal skills including a demonstrated ability to work both as a member of a team as well as independently.
  • Willingness to travel as required within the Lambton County area.
  • Exerts a professional and respectful etiquette at all times.
  • Familiar with MS Suite; Doxy.me, proficient in Word, Excel, Adobe
  • Ability to provide services virtually using; MS Teams, Doxy.me, Zoom
  • Maintains a remote confidential workspace (temporarily, due to COVID-19).
  • Bilingualism in both official languages of Canada is preferred, but not required
Minimum  Qualifications
  • A Masters of Social Work Degree or a Masters in Counselling degree from an accredited University.
  • Registration and active membership with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (RSW) or the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (RP).
  • Ability to work 2 evenings per week (Wednesday & Thursday 1pm-8pm).
  • A current satisfactory criminal reference check, including a vulnerable sector check
